Cervical Cancer Screening: Pap smears are essential for cervical cancer screening. Current guidelines recommend screening every 3 years for women aged 21–29, and every 5 years for women aged 30–65. To make an appointment with Samantha at Manet’s North Quincy site, call (617) 376-3000.

Exercise: Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise weekly – walking, swimming, or yoga are great options. Movement improves mood, heart health, and bone density. As the weather gets warmer, many communities have free yoga access. Check out:

Calcium intake: It’s important to incorporate calcium into the diet because your body needs it to build and maintain strong bones. Sources of calcium include:

  • milk
  • yogurt
  • soybeans
  • tofu
  • canned sardines
  • salmon with edible bones
  • cheese
  • fortified cereals
  • orange juice
  • supplements

HPV Vaccines: These vaccines are designed to prevent infection with HPV (human papillomavirus), a common sexually transmitted virus that can lead to various cancers. You can be vaccinated from age 9 to age 45. Contact your Manet provider to learn more.

Breast Cancer Screening: Annual screening begins at age 40. Women at high risk (family history, etc.) should discuss with their provider when to initiate annual screenings. Report changes in how breasts look and feel to a provider right away.

Family Planning: Prenatal vitamins, particularly folic acid, should be started at least one month before conception. The recommended dosage of folic acid is 400 to 800 micrograms (mcg) daily.  Check your insurance for covered services before, during and after pregnancy. For example, MassHealth members can receive free prenatal vitamins free of charge at their local pharmacy without a prescription from a provider.
