
Dr. Barber is board certified in internal medicine and completed training in infectious disease medicine. He joined the care team at Manet’s practice location at Father Bill’s Housing Resource Center, 39 Broad Street, Quincy, in February 2025.
An experienced physician, educator and medical executive, Dr. Barber is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine and has served as a medical director and staff physician at Commonwealth Care Alliance Primary Care and as a staff physician with Boston University Medical Group. Previously, he served as Chief of Medicine and Chief Medical Officer at Quincy Medical Center and as President of the Medical and Dental Staff at Boston Medical Center, where he remains on staff.
Dr. Barber earned his medical degree at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Boston City Hospital. He completed an infectious disease fellowship at Boston University School of Medicine. He also holds a Pocket MBA for Physicians from Boston University School of Management and an undergraduate degree in history and science from Harvard University.
Dr. Barber has been widely published and has received numerous awards, including the Clinical Excellence Award from Commonwealth Care Alliance and the Evens Department of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine.
His clinical interests include general internal medicine, disability medicine, behavioral health, infectious diseases and transgender healthcare. Dr. Barber speaks Spanish, and conversational French and Italian.
Dr. Barber has worked at many institutions that serve predominantly historically underserved populations in greater Boston, including Boston City Hospital, Boston Medical Center, Quincy Medical Center, East Boston and Uphams Corner Neighborhood Health Centers, the now closed Mattapan and Long Island Hospitals, and Commonwealth Care Alliance Primary Care.
