Dr. Strake is now seeing patients at Manet’s North Quincy location, 110 West Squantum Street, and will work with Jeanne Hopkins, OD, Manet’s Vision Center director, to expand vision services to Manet’s southern practice sites in Taunton and Attleboro area in the near future.
Joining the Manet staff is a coming home of sorts for Dr. Strake. While working toward his undergraduate degree at the University of Rochester, he spent a year as an AmeriCorps volunteer at Manet and then after graduation, continued working at the health center as a Patient Navigator, assisting individuals and families with health insurance enrollment under the newly implemented Affordable Care Act (ACA). A Scituate native, Dr. Strake recently moved back to the South Shore, making his return to Manet a natural fit.
“I am super excited to be back. Manet helped me decide what I wanted to do with my life,” he explains. “While working there early on, I saw the positive impact you can make on people’s lives, and I really enjoyed that.”
Today, he is an accomplished optometrist who delivers comprehensive optometry services with a focus on community health and ocular disease. “I like to practice in a community health center setting, where you do a little bit of everything and work with people of all ages and all walks of life.”
Dr. Strake earned his Doctor of Optometry at the New England College of Optometry in Boston and completed his residency training at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Brockton. Most recently, he served as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Optometry at the New England College of Optometry and an Attending Optometrist at Lynn Community Health Center.
The Vision Center at Manet is open to Manet patients as well as the general public and provides comprehensive eye health services for people four years of age and older. Services include annual eye exams for adults and children, diabetic eye exams with retinal photography, glaucoma testing, evaluation and treatment of minor eye injuries and infections, contact lens fittings and more. Most vision insurance plans are accepted.
