Conduct a Monthly Breast Exam
All women over 18 should perform a monthly
self-exam.
Do a breast exam in three locations to look for signs and symptoms of breast cancer:
- in the shower
- in front of a mirror
- while lying down
Perform the exam a few days after your period or, for post-menopausal women, at the same time every month.
Know the Signs and Symptoms to Look For
During a breast exam, look/feel for the following and talk to your provider if you notice:
- A lump or thickening in/near breast or underarm
- Change in size or shape
- Dimpling or puckering in the skin
- Nipple turned inward
- Discharge
- Scaly, red or swollen skin
Don't Put Off Your Mammogram
Mammograms are the gold standard for detecting breast cancer early, before signs and symptoms appear.
If you are 40 or older, check in with your Provider about a mammogram.
If you are a Manet patient, you can visit the Manet Radiology Center in North Quincy! Call 617-376-3000 to make an appointment.
